Lowell, an emigrant from Latvia, studied at the Art Students League, and with artists Siddons Mowbray and Gutzon Borglum. He is well known for his views of New York, emphasizing the steel and granite splendors of bridges, monuments, and tall buildings, as well as natural beauty in Central Park and on the Hudson River. He taught art at Hunter College and at the New School in New York City, and his works are represented in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Newark Museum, and the New York Public Library. His prints were often published by Associated Artists, in New York. |
