Biographical and literary essays celebrating four illustrious Italian literary figures: Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), author of The Divine Comedy<\/strong> and The Inferno<\/strong>; Angelo Poliziano (1454-1494), poet and humanist; Lodovico Ariosto (1474-1533), idealist poet; and Torquato Tasso (1544-1595) author of the epic poem Jerusalem Delivered.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Angelo Fabroni was an erudite Italian writer and publisher of biographies and paeans to illustrious men.<\/p>\n

The book is dedicated to the Ferdinand, \u201cInfantado\u201d of Spain, Duke of Parma, Piacenza, and Guastalla, who maintained the area under Spanish Bourbon rule from 1763. Parma became a center for European culture in the late 18th century. In 1797 the French armies invading Northern Italy set up satellite republics throughout the area, but left Ferdinand\u2019s lands alone because Spain was a French ally. However in 1801, the year after this book was published, Ferdinand ceded the Duchies of Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla to France.<\/p>\n

Condition: Stiff paper binding distressed, and book coming apart in stitched sections. Should be rebound. Interior contents generally very good, hand cut deckled edge pages, some uncut. We can arrange rebinding to purchaser\u2019s specifications for approximately $200 additional (or will sell as is).<\/p>\n
