Her flower paintings are still popular as posters today.<\/p>\n<p>Colvert and Robert Wirth were Prussian-born engravers who were working in New York City as early as 1860. Dwarf Thistle &amp; Dog Rose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Four delicately shaded and detailed prints of naturalistic floral arrangements against a striking pale green background. These are typical of the late 19th century Victorian genre of depicting botanicals in informal bouquets. The progenitor of the style was the great French botanical artist Pierre Redout\u00e9, whose <strong>Choix<\/strong> series, published at the end of his career, included bouquets of some of the specimens rather than the more typical scientific study of a single plant.
