Gerson Leiber was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1921. He studied art in Hungary while stationed there in World War II. When he returned to New York City after the war, he studied printmaking with Will Barnet at the Art Students League and Gabor Peterdi at the Brooklyn Museum. His prints were widely acclaimed and exhibited, including exhibitions at Associated American Artists and the Alex Rosenberg Gallery. In the mid-1950s, his emphasis shifted from printmaking to painting, though he continued to make and exhibit prints. Leiber and his wife, the handbag designer Judith Leiber, lived for many years in East Hampton, New York, where a major retrospective of his art took place in 2003-04 at the Guild Hall Museum. In 2005, the couple built The Leiber Collection, an art gallery in East Hampton, to house their work and chronicle their careers. The gallery is open to the public during the summer.<\/p>\n
Condition: Generally very good with the usual overall light toning, wear, soft creases. Some stray ink and inpainted ink, as issued.<\/p>\n
