He also painted in oils. Born in Hamburg, Germany, he studied painting at the Art Institute there with Julius Wohlerns and later continued his studies in Paris. He began exhibiting his work in Germany, including a show at the Hamburg Museum. In 1928 he emigrated to the United States, and spent the latter part of his life in Brewster, New York. During his long career he exhibited his work in the United States and abroad. Two of them show Manhattan in the 1950s and the other is an historical view of old New York.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fifth Avenue <\/strong>takes in the view looking south from around 60th Street. The sloped roof of the Plaza Hotel is visible above the treetops on the far right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bowling Green<\/strong>, the oldest public park in New York City, is shown from the Customs House at the foot of Broadway, with the Cunard Building prominently featured. Indeed, Cunard Line reproduced the image on the covers of menus aboard the R.M.S.
