This small globe packs a remarkably large amount of geographic information it, particularly in Europe. Nonetheless, the United States (“Etats-Unis Du Nord”)\u00a0 is labeled very simply only naming “New-Yorck” and “Californie.” Unlike larger Forest table globes there is no identification key. Oceans are blue, countries are colored in faded shades of yellow, orange, pink and green.\u00a0 Antarctica is cream-colored.<\/p>\n

Condition: Generally very good with the usual overall light toning, wear, handling. Some light restoration at North Pole. Paper overall is clear to read but slightly creased and puckered from shrinkage; nonetheless presenting nicely. A charming miniature globe, in a sense a pocket globe on ebonized wooden stand.<\/em><\/p>\n

The terrestrial globe is surmounted by a disk finial, raised vertically on an ebonized wooden stand with a turned central standard and tapered to a round base.\u00a0 The globe shows present-day St. Petersburg, Russia, as “Leningrad;” therefore, it was made after 1924.\u00a0 Further, it shows Constantinople rather than Istanbul, indicating a date of manufacture before 1930.\u00a0 In addition, it shows Central Australia as a separate territory (apparently so by dotted lines but not named), limiting its period from 1927 to 1931.\u00a0 It was produced during the golden era of the French Art Deco period, though the original stand is fairly traditional, typical of earlier periods.<\/p>\n
