Victor Feltrin was an Italian-born French sculptor. After immigrating to France in 1947, Feltrin enrolled at the Acad\u00e9mie Grande Chaumi\u00e8re in Paris, where he studied sculpture under Ossip Zadkine, and then at the Acad\u00e9mie Julian. He exhibited at the Paris Salon of Independent Artists from 1952. Feltrin’s work became increasingly abstract over the course of his career. His work is in the collection of the Mus\u00e9e de Vernon in France, as well as in many French churches.<\/p>\n
Condition: Generally very good with the usual overall light wear, handling, minor abrasions.<\/p>\n

Head of a woman wearing a bronze hood that covers all but her face. The face is unglazed terracotta clay, while the hood is glazed with a bronze slip \u2014 a glaze containing bronze powder. The face is stylized in a Modernist Art Deco manner. It likely is of the Virgin Mary since the artist made other sculptures on the theme of Madonna and Child that also have a draped head in a similar style. The artist might have intended it as a study for a full body sculpture, though it might have been intended as a bust as it is, and certainly presents well that way.<\/p>\n
