Hammond & Co. was a prominent producer of maps and globes from the late 19th century though most of the 20th Century. In its formative years, it was one of the few globe manufacturers not to move to Chicago, instead producing their globes in New York, Brooklyn and Boston. Many of their globes from the second quarter of the 20th Century resemble those made by the London globe maker Philip & Son, which possibly provided the gores to Hammond. In addition, in this period, some Hammond globes were made by the Chicago globe maker Weber Costello, affixed with a Hammond overlabel on the cartouche.

Oval Cartouche: HAMMOND’S/ 9 INCH/ TERRESTRIAL GLOBE/ 3036/ Principal Steamship Routes with/ Distances in Nautical Miles/ Principal Transcontinental Railways/ C.S. The globe shows countries, rivers, and major cities. American states are indicated by dashed lines and labeled, except for nine smaller northeastern states, which are numbered according to a key above the analemma. Istanbul is shown followed by “(Constantinople),” which indicates a date shortly after 1930. Siam appears on the globe, indicating a date before about 1939, when it was renamed Thailand. Steamship routes are indicated by dashed lines with distances in nautical miles; transcontinental railways are indicated by solid lines. Ocean currents are indicated by arrows and some are labeled, e.g. “Peruvian Current” and “Mexican (July) Monsoon.” Oceans are blue, other geographic entities are tan or brown. There is a figure-eight analemma in the Pacific Ocean.

Product description continues below.

[9413,27
61,59,843,226,37,249,225,5340,5345
0":"post-32644","1":"product","2":"type-product","3":"status-publish","4":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"product_cat-american-globe-archive","7":"product_cat-hammond","8":"product_tag-20th-century","9":"product_tag-american","10":"product_tag-art-deco","11":"product_tag-desk","12":"product_tag-globe","13":"product_tag-hammond","14":"product_tag-table","15":"product_tag-terrestrial-globe","16":"product_tag-world-globe","17":"pa_maker-hammond","18":"pa_maker-location-united-states","19":"post","20":"post-with-thumbnail","21":"post-with-thumbnail-large","23":"first","24":"instock","25":"sold-individually","26":"product-type-simple
["GET
