Bridges is best known for publishing John Randel, Jr.&#8217;s\u00a0<em>The Commissioner&#8217;s Plan<\/em>\u00a0shortly thereafter\u2014the genesis of the gridiron layout of the streets of upper Manhattan. Bridges&#8217; version of the Mangin-Goerck Plan generally appeared as a fold-out map in\u00a0<em>Picture of New York<\/em>\u00a0by Dr. Samuel Mitchell. The example of the map we offer was separately issued\u2014perhaps by Bridges himself\u2014who was known to have made his version of\u00a0<em>The Commissioner&#8217;s Plan<\/em>\u00a0available for sale on rollers as well.
