Casals, from Catalonia, Spain, is regarded as one of the greatest cellists of the 20th Century. Casal&#8217;s signature appears as the title of the work in the matrix.<\/p>\n<p>Ferdinand Schmutzer was a prolific painter, printmaker, and photographer from Vienna Austria. He came from an artistic family, including his father, grandfather, and great grandfather &#8212; the latter being Jacob Math\u00e4us Schmutzer, who founded the Imperial Academy of Engraving.\u00a0 Schmutzer became Professor at the Vienna Academy in 1908 and was a member of the Vienna Secession from 1901, and President, 1914-1917.
