Curtis sold a collection of his work documenting the region to the University of Washington Library in 1940, where it still resides, a major picture of archive of Washington State in the first four decades of the 20th century (see The University of Washington Library Digital Collections). Asahel Curtis began his photographic career working in the studio established by his older brother Edward S. Curtis, who is famous for his photographs of Native Americans. Rainier, looking down at the Paradise Inn covered with snow drifts. The Tatoosh Range is in the background. The inn was built in 1917 and is still operated on the site, which is part of the Mt. Rainier National Park. It has been designated a &#8220;historic hotel&#8221; by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
