The Asahel Curtis Photo Company was primarily a commericial studio specializing in photographing the landscape, towns and industries of the Pacific Northwest. Curtis sold a collection of his work documenting the region to the University of Washington Library in 1940, where it still resides, a major picture of archive of Washington State in the first four decades of the 20th century (see The University of Washington Library Digital Collections). Asahel Curtis began his photographic career working in the studio established by his older brother Edward S. Curtis, who is famous for his photographs of Native Americans. Correspondence from the photo librarian of the Washington State Historical Society, which holds Curtis’ negatives in their archives, verified the title and date of this photograph.<\/p>\n
