The unusual vantage point takes an animal\u2019s point of view, looking up into the dog\u2019s mouth at its pointed white teeth and curling pink tongue.<\/p>\n This study is probably by a French or Continental artist working in the 18th century. It resembles the work of Alexandre-Fran\u00e7ois Desportes (1661-1743) and Jean Baptiste Oudry (1686-1755), both of whom produced a number of paintings of sporting and hunting scenes featuring dogs in the first half of the 18th century. The paper bears the watermark of D. & C.
