Description
Clarence William Anderson was an etcher, lithographer, illustrator and writer, whose specialty was horses. Born in Nebraska, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and by the 1940s was living in New Hampshire. He was a member of the Society of American Etchers and exhibited his prints. He was well known as an author and illustrator of children’s books under the name C.W. Anderson, from at least the late 1930s to the ‘60s, many of which continue to be reissued in the present. His over 40 books include a popular series of stories about the adventures of a boy named Billy and his pony, Blaze, as well as other horse-themed fiction for young people. He also wrote and illustrated Black, Bay and Chestnut Profiles of Twenty Horses (1939), Heads Up, Heels Down; A Handbook of Horsemanship and Riding (1944), Complete Book of Horses and Horsemanship and C.W. Anderson’s Favorite Horse Stories.
Condition: Generally very good with the usual overall light toning and wear. Professionally cleaned with faint remnants of mat toning remaining, can be matted out.
