Military clinometer, model Mark II, No. 177, in its original mahogany storage box. Also called a gunner’s level, it was used to align a gun in its required elevation angle.
E.R. Watts & Son is a leading British maker of mathematical and optical instruments, established in 1856 by Edwin Watts (1833-1901) and still in business today as Hall and Watts Defense Optics. Both clinometer and box are numbered C233/10/C.
