Description

Stanley Jerome Hoxie was an artist and illustrator based in Mystic, Connecticut, and known for his New England landscapes and maritime scenes. He generally signed his work “S. Jerome Hoxie.” Hoxie illustrated the books Stonington Cooks and Cookery (1949) and History of East Greenwich, Rhode Island 1677-1960 (1960). The Mystic Seaport Museum has at least 30 drawings by Hoxie in its collection, and the National Gallery of Art owns a precise rendering of a carved wooden figurehead in watercolor. The Jerome Hoxie Scenic Overlook, with a view of Mystic Cove along I-95 in Mystic, is named after him.

Condition: Generally very good with the usual overall light toning, wear, soft creases. Apparently hand colored, probably original.
