Pewter or white metal globe bank with a coin slot in the bottom of the baroque style base, produced as an advertisement for the Peoples Bank of Philadelphia. The globe is a simple one, with continents in raised relief but not named and with incised latitude and longitude lines. The sphere of the globe is molded in one piece with the base, supported by four volutes joined by classical festoons of flowers and centered by reserves with laurel leaves and berries, the rim of the base decorated with architectural molding design. An inset brass rectangular plaque on the base is inscribed “Peoples Bank Philadelphia/ Member of Federal Reserve System.”

Description

Inscription on bottom beside coin slot: “Pat’d Feb. 16 – 1919, MADE BY [no name given or name obliterated]. Another patent date along the rounded edge of the base reads, “Pat’d Aug. 30, 1921.”

Condition: Generally very good, having acquired a rich pewter patina, with the usual overall light wear, abrasions, discoloration. Some polish residue. Key not present
