Artillery Cannon
1st Half 20th Century
Brass
23 x 29 x 10.75 inches
Detailed model of a brass cannon for firing artillery. The cannon is mounted on a revolving platform that sits on four wheels, and can be angled by means of a steering wheel at the back. There is a seat on a platform in the front for the driver and two facing seats on the back platform for the artillerymen. It does not seem to specifically resemble a particular gun model. It may be an especially detailed example of “trench art” — a term that encompasses a wide range of military crafts produced during wartime by deployed soldiers, though the term also includes items relating to military efforts made by others during or after the war. Military personnel adopted trench art crafts to pass the time while deployed or as a hobby/business after retirement.
Condition: Generally very good with the usual overall wear.
