Detailed studies of American locomotives of the late 19th century, the golden era of American railroads. Both passenger and freight locomotives are shown for various railways including Boston & Albany R.R., Central Pacific, and Norfolk and Western. All of the drawings are dated between December 1895 and February 1896. Each locomotive is shown in profile facing right with a tender car behind it. The tender contained the fuel to run the locomotive, either coal or wood. All but the Fast Passenger Atlantic Type are inscribed in ink with the title and weight. The Central Pacific Railroad Photographic History Museum has an 1894 locomotive drawing by George B. Trumbull on its web site (see References below). Otherwise, works from this series appear to be rare.
