Description

The offered globe is by an anonymous artist, apparently inspired by the Jerusalem Fountain, a large work centered by a similar globe, produced by the Israeli artist Frank Meisler (born c. 1930) for the lobby of the King Solomon Hotel in Jerusalem. Meisler explained that he chose a spherical shape to represent “the city walls and gates and the buildings culminating with the Temple Mount [and that the] concept derives from ancient maps showing Jerusalem as a circular city in the center of a flat world.”

Condition: Generally very good with the usual overall light wear. Apparently formerly with gilt highlights, now considerably worn. Stand very good. The globe is apparently made of a thin sheet of silver over a heavy material. It is marked “925” which denotes sterling silver.
