C.S. Hammond & Co.
9-Inch Terrestrial Table Globe
Brooklyn, New York: c. Mid 1930s
Bakelite stand
11.5 inches high, 8-inch diameter base

The terrestrial globe is surmounted by an hour circle canted in a calibrated half meridian, raised on an Art Deco Bakelite black stand.  The globe shows countries, rivers, and major cities. American states are indicated by dashed lines and labeled, except for nine smaller northeastern states, which are numbered according to a key above the analemma. Istanbul is shown followed by “(Constantinople),” which indicates a date shortly after 1930. Siam appears on the globe, indicating a date before 1939, when it was renamed Thailand. Steamship routes are indicated by dashed lines with distances in nautical miles; transcontinental railways are indicated by solid lines. Ocean currents are indicated by arrows and some are labeled, e.g. “Peruvian Current” and “Mexican (July) Monsoon.” Oceans are blue, other geographic entities are orange, red, green, and yellow, some with heavier outlines, some shaded with diagonal stripes. There is a figure-eight analemma in the Pacific Ocean.
