Ebonized Low Tripod Stand
Continental: Early 20th Century
Carved wood, ebonized, parcel gilt
18 inches high; 9 inches diameter top
$2,250

A low tripod floor stand, in the Louis XV rococo taste, of carved wood, ebonized and parcel gilt. The round top with carved molded rim rests on a pierced lattice support decorated with quatrefoils, raised on three inverted scrolled legs decorated with acanthus carved leaves, the legs joined by a medial stretcher and ending in inverted scrolled feet. This stand was probably originally intended to hold and display a Chinese or Japanese vase or sculpture. It would also be appropriate for the display of a wide variety of other decorative or fine arts or for use as a plant stand.

Condition: Generally very good, paint and gilding recently restored.
