Ornamental lid for the top of a compact powder container, in the form of a seated woman in a full-length gown and cape, her arms outstretched, her smiling face tilted upward. The cape and her hair are decorated with faceted glass jewels. Weidlich Brothers Manufacturing Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut, primarily produced silver-plated decorative objects. The company was founded in 1901 by brothers Louis, Frank and William Weidlich. Louis was also one the principle designers, along with Alfred J. Flauder. Both held many design patents for items produced by the company such as jewelry cases, salt and pepper shakers, candlesticks, cigarette lighters, trophies, vanity table objects, and table ware. They also collaborated on two patents for metalwork manufacturing methods. The company closed in 1950.
