A whimsical watercolor of a woman on horseback as seen from behind. The inscription at the bottom of the page reads, "'One thing I like about living in the country is my horse back ride before dinner.' (Line from a new Play.)"
Ruth Evelyn Hammond was a painter born in Connecticut, who lived in Brunswick, Maine, and exhibited actively in New England, where she was a member of several artists' organizations. She earned a B.A. at Mt. Holyoke College, and studied at the Yale Graduate School of Art and with Dante Ricci in Rome, Italy. Among her exhibition credits are the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Alliance of American Artists, National Association of Women Artists, Deerfield Academy, and Mt. Holyoke College Museum.
