Natural history prints of mammals in their environment from an Italian zoological atlas. The landscape settings are simple yet effective compositional devices but also convey general information about the creature's habitat. While European species such as the European hedgehog are well-represented, the plates also portray animals from distant continents such as raccoons and armadillos.
The set was originally published in eight volumes: the first one general; the second volume of which covered primates and monkeys; the third, mammals and cats; the fourth, marine mammals, echidnas and platypuses; the fifth and sixth, birds; the seventh, reptiles and fish; and the eighth, insects, invertebrates, shells and mollusks.
Condition: Generally very good with the usual light toning, wear, soiling, soft creases. Blind stamp lower margin.
