A monkey holds a swaddled kitten, and keeps the startled mother cat back by brandishing a hot poker. In the early 19th century, animals were frequently depicted in human activities as political or social satires, or to illustrate fables with moral lessons. It has been suggested that this print was intended to satirize the practice of the aristocrat classes leaving the care of their infants to servants.

Condition: Generally very good with usual expected wear, soiling and toning.
