|
View of Venice with a gondola gliding down a canal toward a small bridge as an onlooker watches, leaning on a stone wall. Vincenzo Torreggiani (or Torrigiani), was an Italian painter and draftsman, known for his perspective views. Born in Budrio, he worked in Florence, Rome and Bologna. The quadratures -- frescoed wall paintings -- in the Palazzo Panciatichi, Tuscany, are attributed to him, and he painted a perspective view for the cloister of the Church, Convent and Museum of St. Joseph of the Cappuccini in Bologna. Condition: Generally very good with the usual light overall toning. Very pale foxing, almost imperceptible. Professionally laid on supporting sheet. References: Bénézit, E.
