A collection of 28 lovely colorful chromolithographic prints of ancient Roman fresco walls and mosaics excavated at Pompeii. Also includes two maps of the region, one highlighted with recent excavations from 1874-88. Likely issued as a tourist souvenir book of the late 19th century. No text or title page, probably as issued.

The discovery of the city of Pompeii in 1748, buried by a volcanic eruption in 79 A.D., yielded Roman wall paintings that had been preserved for centuries.

Tissue guards dampstained, but most plates free from similar staining except marginal stain to first colorplate and last map. Front free endpaper has light edge wear.
