Large original manuscript map of Captree State Park on Long Island, in Babylon, New York, located on the eastern tip of Jones Island, which opened in 1954. The map shows Captree Island, the State Boat Channel, Fire Island Inlet and the portion of Jones Island that includes Captree State Park and Oak Beach. The simple rendering shows the park in shades of green and yellow, and the surrounding geographical areas in tan. Within the park, areas of vegetation are indicated in green, and the boat basin, parking areas, fishing pier and nearby picnic area, roads and a few buildings (in red) are labeled. The map is signed by the artist lower right and dated February 6, 1953, but the title gives a date of 1959.

Today Captree State Park is home to the largest public fishing fleet on Long Island. Other popular attractions include the picnic area, with a view of Fire Island and the Fire Island Lighthouse. On this early map, what is now Ocean Parkway is labeled "To Jones Beach & New York" and there is a dashed line leading south from the traffic circle labeled "Proposed Fire Island Bridge." This has since been constructed and named the Robert Moses Causeway and the circle has been replaced by a cloverleaf.

C. Koetzner was a map illustrator who also drew the maps on a 1959 poster promoting tourism in New York.
