Series of handsome maps, including the world and continents as well as the French departments (regional governmental entities). In each print, a central map is surrounded by an elaborate illustrated collage of images relating to the region, including allegorical figures, famous places and persons, fauna and flora, topographical features, indigenous peoples, and local agricultural and industrial products.

Victor Levasseur was a prolific cartographic publisher in the mid to late 19th century. He also produced Atlas Universel de Geographie Physique, Politique, Ancienne & Moderne [Universal Atlas of Physical As Well As Ancient and Modern Political Geography], with similar decorative maps.
