A slate globe with red latitude and longitude lines on a stand in the Art Deco taste, the sphere covered as issued with black slating material. The globe is canted on an angle on an aluminum inclination arm and mounted on a molded circular Bakelite stand.
Globes coated with slating material were produced from the mid 19th century to the mid 20th century as educational aids for the study of geography. Students practiced drawing maps in chalk on the surface; in this example they were guided by lines of latitude and longitude.
