A pair of decorative painted wooden plaques showing famous events in the history of hot air balloons, within painted classical border.

The Montgolfier brothers were the first to realize the human dream of flying. They designed the first hot air balloon, and their first passengers in an untethered flight were Pilístre de Rosier, a physicist, and the Marquis D'Arlandes. The gondola of the balloon, they were to ride was divided into three parts. The two side parts carried the passengers and in the center was the burner that was fueled with burning straw. The historic manned flight, rising to an altitude of 1000 meters, took place on November 21, 1783 and lasted 28 minutes. This event caused a sensation. The Godard brothers were famous French Mid 19th Century balloonists, and this plaque evidently refers to one of their flights.

Condition: Generally good with the usual light wear. Paint a bit crazed, few losses neatly restored.
