Pair of separately issued prints, each representing two seasons. Spring Summer shows a mother and two children, the boy holding a nest of baby birds and the girl picking roses for spring, and a couple with pitchforks before a hay field for summer. Autumn Winter shows a mother and two little girls with recently harvested fruit for autumn, and a couple standing before a snowy landscape for winter. The mezzotint process allowed the artist to achieve the smooth gradations of a pastel drawing.
