Surrounding the map are inset maps, charts, and diagrams, including the moon, celestial hemispheres, a planetary chart showing the reasons for the seasons, a world map on Mercator's Projection, The Analemma, and The Art of Dialing By a Common Globe.
Cartographic detail shows the world after Cook's first voyage of 1769-1770, with his Southern Pacific coastal discoveries in Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica. The voyages of Bougainville and Anson are also shown, as are those of the Russian explorer Tchirikow in the region of the subsequently named Behring Straits. |
